Entry #7 The Film Fresh

The film Fresh is about our food, the food system,  how it has changed over the years, and how it is harming ourselves and the planet; it also addresses why we need to make a change and how. It gives viewers an inside look at both the organic farms and farmers as well as the industrialized farms and "farmers". It tells you the ugly truth about what is really going on in the factory farms. Not only are the animals in factory farms being put in inhumane conditions they are givin chemicals and hormones. We are also shown how many chemicals go into the vegetation in the industrialized settings. Industrial farming is also harming earth due to all the water and air pollution it causes. Industrialized farming was meant to make everything easier and cheaper but it is coming out at a larger cost to our health, the health of the earth, and the abuse the animals go through. On the other organic farming is good for us, the earth, and the animals.
I personally think everyone should be aware of what is happening to our food before it gets to our kitchen, after all whatever our food consumes is also going into our body. This film really gets you thinking, you see how bad these animals look and how unhealthy they really are if the animal is unhealthy then eating it is also unhealthy. In the film one thing that really astonished me was that in factory farms not even the farmers want to handle the animals because the conditions are so bad and no one want to work there so they have to hire inmates from a nearby prison to work at the factory farm. Another thing i learned from the film was that we don't need industrial farming, we would have enough food for everyone with organic farms and it would also be much healthier. If you have not watched the film I would highly recommend it, it is really interesting to see what is really happening to our food. It is also amazing how beneficial organic farming is to our future, if we don't start to change now industrialized farming will become the only kind of farming.

Entry #6: Millenials

The millennials are the generation of the people who were born any time between 1980 and 2000, also known as generation Y, it is also the largest generation in history. The millennials are the most judged and negatively viewed generation thus far.The older public thinks this generation is ruining everything, they also see the Millennials as lazy. But viewing all economical and social aspects, this generation is doing extremely great.
The millennials grew up in a time of turbulent change. All the technology this generation is said to be "addicted" to is thought to diminish their social skills. But this generation is one of the most socially active. According to government studies in the U.S  teenagers today are more involved in their communities, they think that contributing to society is very important unlike generation before. Millennials also have closer relationships than previous generations did with their family and peers.
Being healthy is something that the millennial generation takes seriously. People like to say that they are lazy but really the millennials exercise more and are overall more active than the generations before them. Millennials say they are encouraged to be active by the media and are able to stay active by using apps. This generation is also eating healthier, and smoking less. Smoker rates are actually lower than ever before, many predict that this will be the generation that will end smoking.
On an economical aspect let's just say this generation will have a huge impact on the economy. The generation is reaching their prime working and spending years. This will put more money in their pockets and spend a large amount. Technological advancements make purchasing items easier, this means more spending and overall a healthier economy.
Millennials are not doing as bad as everyone thinks they are. They are choosing to live healthier and more active lives, as well as promoting a healthier economy by spending more. Millennials are american history's largest generation. Not only is technology helping this generation stay healthy it is also helping boost America's overall economy.

Entry #5 : Disney pixars Wall-E could become reality

In this short clip from the movie Wall-E it shows how people live, and how technology affects them. Although this is an animated movie it bring up a real issue that we deal with today and will possibly become more like it is shown in this movie in the future.
The video clip begins with a man, who seems to be overweight, video chatting with his friend through a screen and the camera zooms out and shows that the man's friend is sitting right next to him. The camera then zooms out even further and shows that this is normal, every person is overweight, sitting on their own hover chair, and talking to each other through a screen.
Later on in the clip it shows this man who is trying to dispose of his cup by handing it to a robot, since they don't really do anything by themselves, the robots do everything for the humans. The man falls out of his hover chair and is unable to stand up by himself, he needs help from a robot. It seems that the humans in the year 2805 don't need to walk anymore because they have these chairs that take them everywhere, so this man that is about 30 is unable to get up.
In the last few second of the clip the robot Wall-E accidently moves a woman's screen away from her face and she is amazed by what is behind the screen. She also seems kind of hesitant when the robot presents himself to her, as if it were weird or uncommon. After that we are shown this area with big pools but there is noone in them, even though there are people there. The people are sitting by the pools on their screens, but they're not really partaking in any activities.
All the things shown in this movies are norms that we have  today, except less extreme. Technology makes things easier but it is at the same time making us lazy. We do sometimes send someone a text telling them something even though they are near us. And like the people toward the end of the clip that were on their screens by the pool, there are people in our society today who are too distracted by technology and they don't partake in activities because they would rather be on their phone. All of the scenarios as exaggerated as they look could become our reality in a few years if we don't stop excessively using technology. Technology is helpful and fun but we sometimes use it too much, to the point where it can be unhealthy.

Entry #3: What is media Doing to Our Brains?

Media has a major effect on our brain and it isn't always good. We are constantly distracted by technology. We are professional multitaskers, we are on our phones listening to music while we check twitter and look at pictures and send someone a text message. Most people see our ability to multitask as a good thing but it really isn't that great. we are so compulsive and easily distracted, because we are used to going from one topic to another so quickly. This is affecting our ability to retain information in long term memory. We have a bright idea or learn something new and before our brain is able to move the new information from short term memory to long term memory we think of something else or move on to a new topic and that idea or piece of information is left in short term memory to be forgotten.

Entry #2: G-Eazy

Twenty six year old Gerald better known as G-Eazy is an up and coming rapper and New Orleans native. He started making music at the age of thirteen but remained unnoticed until he released the song and music video to "Runaround Sue" which was released in 2011. This song got some attention on the internet, he had to release more music soon to stay on people's radar. G-Eazy now has multiple mixtapes. His latest album "These Things Happen" released in June of 2014 hit number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. G-Eazy will be releasing his second album this year and is expected to be at the top of the charts. I guess you could say he has come a long way from passing out mixtapes.

Entry #1: Learning About Blogs

Jezebel is a blog that can entertain you for hours. It is a feminist blog and is one of many blogs owned by Gawker Media. The stories covered in this blog range from kidnaping stories to a story about google maps for cats. And if you don't fell like reading thats ok because they have  videos. It has taken me longer than it should have to write this because i'm way too distracted by this article on Jezebel. Jezebel.com is a cure for boredom, I garentee it.
While exploring the web and looking at blogs I found a blog that is guaranteed to bore you. A blog called Dog Shaming. It is just countless pictures of dogs with paper signs being shamed. Now don't get me wrong i love dogs, but if i'm gonna go look at dog pictures on the internet show me something cute or funny like a dog riding a bike. I don't want  to see other people's dogs with signs stating what the dog did wrong.
I was extremely disappointment after looking at the dog shaming blog and I was determined to find a good animal blog. I found this blog called, "Animals Doing People Things" It's not well organized but the material is solid. It has the cutest and funniest animal photos and videos. If you want a good laugh head over to animalsthatdopeoplethings.tumblr.com .
